In Defense of Facts: Searching for Truth Using Open Sources – A Workshop with Christo Grozev

While the world appears distorted by technology and algorithms, and information and language often are polluted by powerful interests, new and astonishing ways of investigating crimes, corruption and abuse of power are opened for journalists and fact-seekers. Perhaps especially well known for his investigations into Russian government assassination programs for Bellingcat, Christo Grozev is one of the patron saints of modern investigative journalism using open sources. Using examples, such as his latest investigation into the Austrian tech guru Jan Marsalek who turned out to be a Russian spy, Christo Grozev will in this interactive session demonstrate a variety of information gathering methods online.
