Holtzbrinck Buchverlage GmbH (Germany) and Folkeakademiets landsforbund (Norway) have joined the shareholder community of World Expression Forum (WEXFO).

World Expression Forum AS is a non-profit company owned by various entities in Norway and internationally. The company is now expanding with two new co-owners from the book industry and the cultural and educational sector, respectively.

Claudia Häußermann from Holtzbrinck commented on joining the WEXFO network:

“As a publishing group, we consider the defense of freedom of expression and the strengthening of democracy to be central tasks. The World Expression Forum creates an indispensable global space for exchange and engagement on these existential issues. We are convinced by the combination of high-caliber international dialogue at the conferences and the concrete projects initiated by WEXFO – including the important programs for fostering the next generation.”

“As shareholders, we look forward to being part of this network and actively helping to shape WEXFO’s mission: strengthening the commitment to freedom of expression and democratic values worldwide.”

Folkeakademiet is a nationwide educational and cultural organization with roots dating back to the 19th century. The organization works to enhance social awareness and democratic engagement through lectures, debates, tours, and cultural dissemination.

“Our core belief is that freedom of expression, human rights, and democratic participation are values that must be learned, understood, and protected. With the current changes in technology, geopolitics, and the environment, our work is more relevant than ever. The digital age challenges our ideas of truth, source criticism, and community. Artificial intelligence and disinformation highlight the need for informed citizens and meaningful conversations,” commented Acting Secretary General Ingvild Berrefjord.

“In this context, WEXFO has become a key international platform for dialogue on freedom of expression and democratic resilience. By becoming a shareholder in WEXFO, Folkeakademiet underscores its long-term commitment to promoting freedom of expression and democratic sustainability.”

Both share purchases required an update to WEXFO’s statutes, which was approved by the general assembly on April 7, 2025.
