Sharon Ben Arie is a mother to Tom, and the daughter of Igal and Laly. She has lived in Jerusalem most of her life, with periods in Tel Aviv and Oslo, Norway. She holds a BA in Film and Television from Tel Aviv University and an MA in Media Studies from the University of Oslo.rnrnHer Master’s thesis, The Documentary as a “Third Space” for Others, explored films by Jewish and Palestinian citizens of Israel and laid the foundation for “Other Voices: On the Road Film Festival”—a program of workshops in disadvantaged communities culminating in a documentary film festival aimed at fostering empathy and mutual recognition.rnrnSince 2009, Sharon has worked at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and since April 2022 she has served as Head of the Unit for Diversity & Inclusion. In this role, she leads strategic initiatives to advance equity, inclusion, and belonging across the university. Her work has taken on particular urgency in the context of ongoing crisis and war, requiring sensitive, responsive leadership to support diverse communities, navigate tensions, and sustain a shared academic space grounded in respect, dialogue, and resilience.
