Zyma Islam

Zyma Islam is an investigative reporter at The Daily Star, the leading English-language newspaper in Bangladesh. Her reporting focuses on state-perpetrated rights violations, including torture, enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings and political disinformation. She also covers kleptocracy, capital flight, and the collusion between large corporations and the state. Zyma investigated the killing of protestors by the police in the middle of an internet shutdown during the 2024 student uprising in Bangladesh that left 1400 dead. The newspaper office Zyma works in was attacked by a mob and set on fire with her and 28 of her colleagues inside.
