Richard was the longtime global vice president for news at Google. In that role, he focussed both on how news is presented on Google Search and Google News and on leading the Google News Initiative, which has invested in news innovation around the world. Richard will be leaving Google at the end of June to focus on global public policy regarding the free press and open Internet as the founding board member of the Center for News, Technology, and Innovation. He has also become chair of Village Media, a Canadian based company which has profitably implemented its community impact platform to inform the communities they serve and drive engagement across the political spectrum. He conveyed his vision for the news ecosystem in a recent piece on the Evolution of Media and Democracy. How did we get here? How might we move forward?
