The World Expression Forum (WEXFO) has unveiled the program and speakers for its annual freedom of expression conference, set to take place in Lillehammer, Norway, on June 2-3.

“World Expression Forum aims to empower and defend freedom of expression as an absolute precondition for democracy and human progress. This goal is now more crucial than it has been in generations. This year’s conference will be our most important ever,” says Kristenn Einarsson, Managing Director of WEXFO.

Global gathering
The conference will bring together speakers and participants from around the world to discuss critical issues such as the development of democracy, disinformation, press freedom, technology, diversity, inclusion, and freedom of expression in conflict areas, media, academia, and humor.

“In Lillehammer this June, WEXFO will unite and engage young people, leaders, and freedom of expression advocates from across the globe to address the most pressing challenges. Our goal is to drive change. We are gathering forces to resist autocracy, persecution, and oppression,” Einarsson continues.

Young perspectives and energy
Einarsson highlights the crucial role of young people in this gathering. 110 young participants will join the conference through dedicated WEXFO programs, and 1500 youth will gather for a freedom of expression festival in the hotel garden during the conference days.

“The involvement of young people is vital to our mission. Their energy and perspectives are essential in driving the change we aim to achieve,” adds Einarsson.

‘The Year of Resistance’
The lineup of speakers includes prominent politicians, media personalities, researchers, artists, academics, and young experts and activists who are fighting for their right to express themselves freely and safely.

“Freedom of expression and democracy are at stake, and we must come together and act now. That’s why we are calling this year’s conference The Year of Resistance,” Einarsson explains.

The WEXFO 2025 conference will be held at the Scandic Lillehammer Hotel on June 2-3.
