World Expression Forum (WEXFO) is deeply concerned about the ongoing legal proceedings against human rights lawyer Imaan Mazari-Hazir in Islamabad, reported in Pakistani and international media. As the recipient of the WEXFO Young Inspiration Award, Mazari-Hazir represents young voices fighting for the rule of law and freedom of expression.
In June, Imaan Mazari-Hazir was honored with the WEXFO Young Inspiration Award for her extraordinary courage, integrity, and commitment to justice and the rule of law. The award was announced during the WEXFO conference in Lillehammer and has been covered by both Norwegian and international media.
Kristenn Einarsson, the Managing Director of WEXFO, calls for a fair trial for Mazari-Hazir, saying that:
“We note that a court in Islamabad has rejected Mazari-Hazir’s plea for acquittal in a case related to social media expressions, and that the proceedings continue. WEXFO calls for a fair trial and respect for fundamental human rights, including freedom of expression, so that human rights defenders can carry out their work without prosecution, threats, or other reprisals. WEXFO will continue to monitor the case in cooperation with our network. It is crucial to stand up for the young voices who fight for freedom of expression.”
