The World Expression Forum (WEXFO) is a meeting place and driving force for freedom of expression as a fundamental human right and a cornerstone of democracy.

WEXFO was created to address global challenges to freedom of expression and to provide a space for dialogue, collaboration, and solutions.
Who founded WEXFO?
WEXFO was initiated by a coalition of Norwegian and international partners, including organizations, institutions, and individuals committed to safeguarding free expression.
Why is WEXFO based in Lillehammer, Norway?
Lillehammer is a UNESCO City of Literature, an ICORN city of refuge for artists at risk, and hosts Scandinavia’s largest literature festival. The city, the Innlandet region, and Norway as a whole are committed to supporting freedom of expression worldwide.
What is WEXFO’s purpose?
The purpose of WEXFO is to empower and protect freedom of expression as a fundamental precondition for democracy and human progress, and to unite defenders of this right in a strong and active global community.
What does WEXFO do?
We work to foster knowledge, dialogue, and cooperation across generations, sectors, and borders. WEXFO organizes an annual global freedom of expression conference, runs and collaborates on projects promoting youth, reading and democracy, and builds networks that connect experts, policymakers, and civil society.
How does WEXFO engage young people?
Through our initiative WEXFO Youth, we involve young people in programs and events such as our annual conference, our Youth Voices festival, school initiatives, international exchanges, and seminars that empower participants to speak up and take action.
