Seyran Ates

Seyran Ateş is a human rights activist, women’s rights activist, lawyer, author and mosque founder and has been campaigning for equality between men and women in society for over 30 years. Her commitment is characterised by fearlessness, civil courage and her ability to assert herself against fanaticism and lack of freedom. Out of her tireless commitment to a contemporary, progressive Islam, Seyran Ateş founded the Ibn Rushd – Goethe Mosque in Berlin, which differs from traditional mosques in that all the tasks in the mosque are also taken on by women.
